Matt Poischbe, TEDx Speaker on the value of apprenticeships.

Experience Counts!

Early Foundations in Germany

Matt’s journey began with a strong foundation in Germany, where he completed two Registered Apprenticeships starting at the age of 16 after graduating middle school. This experience laid the groundwork for his deep understanding of the value of hands-on learning and skill development through apprenticeships.

Pioneering Apprenticeship Education in the U.S

As an Advisor for AJAC Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeships in Seattle, WA, since 2013, Matt has been instrumental in shaping the future of apprenticeship education. He played a key role in advising the Snohomish County Career Connected learning program and participating in local school district CTE advisory boards. His insights, drawn from over 20 years in the plastics manufacturing industry and his personal apprenticeship experiences in Germany, have been invaluable in guiding employer roundtable discussions and curriculum development.

Operational Leadership and Advocacy

In his role as Director of Operations at SEA-LECT Plastics, a division of Patrick Industries in Everett, WA, Matt successfully guided the company through a significant acquisition while maintaining operational efficiency. His previous tenure as Vice President/General Manager at SEA-LECT Plastics Corporation saw the development of a groundbreaking Plastics Process Technician Apprenticeship program. Matt’s advocacy for youth apprenticeships led to impactful changes, including gaining support from Washington State Governor Jay Inslee.

Educational Background

Matt’s educational journey is as unique as his career. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Business from the University of Hamburg, Germany, at the age of 29. At that time, he needed the additional academic tools for his grown responsibilities as Purchasing Manager for a Marine Hardware Chain. This approach combined advanced technical training, on-the-job learning, with college education, giving Matt a well-rounded and practical educational experience and enabled Matt to complete his degree Magna cum laude.

Vision for the Future

Matt Poischbeg is more than just an Operations Manager and apprenticeship advocate. He’s a visionary leader committed to bridging the gap between education and industry, ensuring the next generation of workers is equipped with the skills needed for success in a rapidly evolving world.
